Stop what you are doing and behold! I swear every time I set my eyes upon its far from debonair faux cross-stitching and infamous “Merry Christmas ya filthy animal” line that I can’t help but giggle sheepishly. It is a flood of memories of a young Macaulay Culkin siting by his lonesome in that grand Chicago house. Most memorable the kitchen scene were he eagerly awaits the opportune moment to light those fire crackers that lay dormant in his mothers casserole pan. Or that spider scene. Daniel Stern’s screams haunts me still. While this movie is now some years old, thanks to our hero himself, Mr Calkin reminding us of such things with this tweet, you’d truly have to have been living under a rock to not recognise that iconic scene. And you certainly don’t have to be a 90’s kid to take that memorable stroll down nostalgia lane as I noticed how last Christmas a lot of my friends children were now revelling in the joys that is the Home Alone movies.
The Holiday Season is one for perpetual hope and cheer and what better to display such joys than via this comical and very relevant sweater? “Merry Christmas ya filthy animal”, is a phrase loved by most, if not all. So why not do fellow mankind a favor and don this bad boy this festive season? Wear him around proudly and watch the eyes of passers by grow large as they struggle to keep their poker faces in tact, but finally succumb to the hoard of giggles that will no doubt break free. I would like to think that such a scenario will surely transpire, every time. Especially given the state of events in our world and society. We can all do with some much needed cheer and merriment.
