Christmas is a special time of year when family and friends come to visit. The room your guests stay in will often determine how enjoyable their visit will be. A guest room should showcase your hospitality. The quality of this type of room is an indication of how happy you are to have particular guests stay in your home. The following factors should be considered if you decide to redesign your guest bedroom in time for Christmas.

PAINT THE ROOM

Adding fresh coats of paint is one of the easiest and most effective ways to instantly transform a room. Make sure you don’t get this part wrong. Use neutral, welcoming colors that complement the other features in the room. This may seem like an obvious change to make, but the colors in a guest room can set the mood for your guests visit. Don’t cut corners when you’re carrying out this part of the redesign. Use high quality paints, taping like JTape, rollers and other painting related products.

CHANGE THE LIGHTING

Another vital ingredient is the lighting in a guest room. Make it as convenient as possible for guests to turn on lights in the room. If they don’t already exist, place switches close to beds. Some homeowners don’t think about this and guests sometimes have to wander around in the dark at night to switch on a light. The type of lighting in a room can also make a great impression. Give visitors different lighting options which can be used when guest are in the room.

ADD SUITABLE MIRRORS

Mirrors amplify the light in a room. They have the potential to make a room come alive. However, before splashing out on a few full length mirrors, it’s a good idea to consider using mirrors that are the appropriate size and shape for the particular room you are redesigning.

UPGRADE THE FLOORING

If you’ve lived in your home for a number of years, the timber flooring or carpet may be old. However, a range of hardwood and other types of flooring products add an instant touch of class to any room. Modern flooring products are cleaner too. This is reassuring because some guests are extremely fussy about hygiene and the condition of a bedroom.

GO FOR THE MINIMALIST LOOK

Many interior designers believe ‘less is more’. You can’t please all of the people all of the time. Every individual has their own tastes and preferences. If you have a room that’s cluttered, it’s a good idea to aim for a more minimalist look. Remove redundant, old items that don’t add to the room. For example, removing an old wardrobe, dated pictures, old style curtains and old furniture will instantly make a room seem more spacious. These items are normally just dust collectors. Replace these items with modern furniture, modern drapes and other features that add to the room without cluttering it.

Many homes will host guests throughout the festive season. Simply redesign your guest bedroom by using the tips here is the perfect way to show how much you care about these family members and friends.
