It sure can be nice to get dressed up and go out to a nice restaurant with your partner. But that’s not always possible. Sometimes the chill in the air can make it more tempting to stay indoors. Sometimes there’s a global pandemic that means all the restaurants are closed. You just never know in this life. But does that mean that you can’t have a lovely night in? Absolutely not. It just means you’ll have to do it at home. In this article, we’re going to run through some tips to creating a restaurant worthy atmosphere at home and that’ll ensure you have an excellent time, even when you can’t go out.

CLEAN SPACES

The key to creating a restaurant worthy atmosphere at home is a clean space. Because you’re not going to feel as if you’re eating in a restaurant if you have to continually move all your belongings out of the way just to reach a dish on the table. If you’re going to have a romantic date night at home, then go into it with intention. That means you should take the time to organise your dining room. If you have a theme in mind, think ‘minimalist.’ The idea is to create a space that is obviously not just the same space where you lounge around and relax all day.

LIGHTING + DECORATING

If you walk into a top of the line restaurant, you’ll feel the atmosphere almost straight away. There’s just something about the place, right? Well, not quite. It’s not the room that brings all the magic to the table. It’s the lighting. Restaurants are good at two things: food, and lighting. They create a cosy and inviting atmosphere that’s just irresistible. While you might not hit quite the heights of a Michelin starred restaurant, you can copy their approach when creating a restaurant worthy atmosphere at home. Or, in a nutshell: big, overly-bright lights bad, warm and soft lighting good. You may also want to include some light decorations on the table. For instance, some fresh flowers or a candle can be an additional nice touch.

WHATS ON THE MENU?

Nobody goes out to eat and orders the same dish that they make multiple times a month. They go out to experience something new. So make sure that you’re serving up exciting and delicious dinners. Indeed, this can even form part of the evening — there’s much fun to be had from cooking together. It’s also recommended to push the boat out slightly, and serve food that you wouldn’t normally have at home. How about half a dozen fresh oysters each, for instance? Foods like these will help to make the menu more interesting, and the night more memorable.

GETTING DRESSED UP

You wouldn’t go to a nice restaurant wearing the same old clothes you wear everyday. You’d get dressed up. So why not do it at home? By taking the time to get yourself dressed and prepared, you’ll be helping to set the tone for the evening. If you want to have a classy evening, then you need to take the time to prepare yourself. Get dressed like you were going out to experience the real thing.
