Itchy skin at night can disrupt your sleep and become a real pain to deal with. There are a lot of potential causes and some simple things you can do for successfully dealing with itchy skin. If you find that you have itchy skin at night and it is getting in the way of a good night’s sleep, here’s some tips on what you can do for relief.

CONSULT A DERMATOLOGIST

You should think about seeing a dermatologist if your itchy skin is becoming a problem. In some cases, it might be caused by a medical condition, especially if you notice any redness or rashes coming up. Hopefully, there is a much simpler cause but it’s always a good idea to get it checked out just in case.

CHANGE YOUR BEDDING

If you use cheap bedding made with scratchy materials, it’s tough to get comfortable at night. A lot of sheets that you buy are made with a polyester blend, which gets hot and itchy, so you should invest in something better. Using organic cotton sheets is a much better alternative. You’ll be far more comfortable and you won’t have a problem with itching. They’re also much better for the environment too, so it’s a great bedroom upgrade to make.

CHECK YOUR SKIN PRODUCTS

The skin products that you use can cause irritation to your skin too. If you use harsh cleaners or soaps, they can dry your skin out and cause itchiness. Anything that is heavily perfumed can cause problems too. If you are finding it hard to stay comfortable at night, take a look at your skin products and think about whether any of them could be the problem. Making the switch to eco-friendly products that are made with all-natural materials can make a huge difference. When dealing with itchy skin, try not to use too many products before going to bed if you can avoid it too.

GET THE HUMIDITY RIGHT

If the air in your home is very dry, this dries out your skin too. This is a big problem for a lot of people in the winter when there is less moisture in the air, in general. You can get a humidity monitor to check the levels of moisture in the air in your home. Ideally, you want the humidity to be at 60% but 30-40% should be a minimum. If you find that the humidity levels are too low, consider getting a humidifier to put in your bedroom at night and you should notice an improvement in dealing with itchy skin. It will also improve your overall skin and prevent dry skin.

TAKE AN OATMEAL BATH

Oatmeal is amazing for your skin and it helps to moisturise and soften it. If you get itchy skin during the night, consider taking an oatmeal bath before bed. This is a great treatment to do from time to time anyway, and it provides a lot of relief for itchy skin at night.

Itchy skin during the night can cause a lot of disruption to your sleep and lead to some very difficult mornings. But if you use these simple tips and tricks, you can tackle the problem and get a good night’s sleep.
