Run a quick Google search of the top home renovation ideas and there will always be one thing on every list. The idea of adding solar panels to your home has become super popular – and it’s easy to see why. With these panels, you can generate clean energy that’s absolutely free. It begs the question if you can afford this investment, why wouldn’t you go ahead and do it?

Well, solar panels do have a tendency to look a bit unsightly. If you’ve spent a lot of money on your roof, you may not like the thought of covering it with some big panels. This throws up another question: do solar panels improve your home or make it too ugly? In other words, in terms of aesthetics, are they worth getting?

THE CASE AGAINST SOLAR PANELS

Let’s start with the arguments against solar panels. Mainly, it’s to do with how ugly they can be. A lot of people don’t want some whopping black panels stuck onto their homes as it makes their property stand out for all the wrong reasons. Plus, as shown here symonsenergy.com.au/sma-solar-panels, you need a little inverter box that sits on the site of your house too. Some people might not mind this, but others will.

There’s the fear that putting solar panels on your home could make it too unattractive. If you still live in your home, you might feel really self-conscious about what the neighbours think. Or, if you’re trying to sell it down the line, you worry that other buyers won’t want a house with these big panels on. So, it is understandable why people might think solar panels are too ugly to bother investing in.

THE CASE FOR SOLAR PANELS

On the other hand, your concerns are pretty much eradicated when you consider modern solar technology. Newer solar panels are already designed to be much thinner and more attractive. So, they aren’t as big of an eyesore on top of your roof. Plus, you have the concept of solar roofing that’s being developed. Here, you can basically replace an entire roof with one made from solar panels. Instead of the massive panels attached to your roof and creating an awkward look, your roof looks sleek and modern – yet retains the power of solar energy.

Already, you can kind of deal with aesthetic concerns. Moreover, think about how much money you will save with solar panels on your roof. Apparently, you could save anywhere between a few hundred dollars to a few thousand dollars per year. That’s absolutely crazy and makes you wonder if it’s even worth worrying about ugly solar panels when they save this much cash!

Ultimately, solar panels definitely improve your home. It might be a shock to the system when you initially put them on, but you get used to it. Plus, with new technologies, you will soon be able to have a whole roof full of solar shingles that replace your existing roofing material. At the end of the day, the benefits outweigh the slight negatives too much to ignore. As far as home investments go, this is one of the best you can make.
