Recently I had to say goodbye to Chanel. Devastati

Recently I had to say goodbye to Chanel. Devastatingly it all happened so fast and unexpected. She was my soul dog; my best friend and sidekick. She was my anchor and my shadow, together for 19 years and 41 days. I’ve had the privilege of spending half my life with this precious little bean. She was my whole world and always by my side; perpetually a beacon of love and light through some of the darkest years.

I truly wish we didn’t have to say goodbye now. I wish she could have stayed longer. It all feels like some horrendous nightmare that I just want to wake up from. The pain of her loss and the void she’s left behind is utterly unbearable. I’m so heartbroken and lost without her. Nothing prepares you for this.

I will endlessly miss holding her in my arms and planting annoying amounts of kisses on that furry little head, and oh how I long to play with those iconic butterfly ears. I’m going to miss calling her all those random nicknames, like Coco-Bears, Squisha-Beans and Amour-zies. I’m going to miss dressing her up in those little sweaters and hoodies then spending the next few hours dealing with her sassy attitude over her displeasure with her outfit choice. Most of all I miss the way she’d curl into my side and rest her head on my arm, snoozing away contently, no doubt dreaming of ways to torment my brother’s dog. I miss waking up to find random patches on my left arm from her wet little nose interfering with my overnight fake tan. I miss the way my clothes were constantly covered in her little white furs. And I miss the way she ate her kibble, one kernel at a time, head up high, crunching away with pride and elation. There’s so many things I will miss; I could go on ceaselessly.

I’ll eternally miss my crazy, sassy, squishy girl. The goodest of girls. The babiest of Chanel’s. The OG.

Until we meet again my little baby Chanel. Keep sending me signs and continue protecting me from the other side.
